A young girl, her Grandpa,
“Dad, what can you teach me that will be useful in my life?” she asked.
After thinking for a long time, Grandpa said,
“I think I have a great life lesson to teach you. But before that, you have to do something big that will get everyone’s attention.”
The girl is happy,
“What kind of thing do you mean, Dad?” she said.
After a moment of silence, Grandpa whistled,
“Go around the village and tell everyone that my ostrich has laid six golden eggs. Everyone will be shocked when they hear this. Then tell them that each egg is worth millions and that I will become a multi-millionaire by selling them. Tell everyone that soon my life will change completely and I will become one of the richest people in the community.”
The little girl pretended not to understand the meaning of the story. After she returned, she and her grandmother waited all day until evening, but not a single neighbor came to their house to congratulate them and share their joy.
The next morning, the grandmother said to the child,
“Now go back to the village and tell everyone that a thief came last night and broke into my house, killed my ostrich, and stole all the golden eggs. Tell them that I have lost everything!”
The girl went out and told her neighbors. But in a short time, a shockingly large crowd gathered at their house. The little girl was surprised and asked her grandmother,
“Dad, how come so many people came today when no one came yesterday?”
Grandpa smiled and said,
“When people hear good news about you, they choose to remain silent, ignore it, and pretend nothing happened. But when they hear bad news about you, they spread it like wildfire; they rush to prove it’s true. People find it difficult to celebrate your success; but they rush to see your failure…”
At that moment, the grandfather placed one of his hands on the boy’s shoulder, smiled again, and continued,
“So here’s the big life lesson I want to teach you… The biggest lie people tell us is that they’re happy when we grow up and succeed. The truth is, most people, even close friends and neighbors, don’t want to see you succeed. When someone sees that you’re succeeding more than them, it becomes a threat to them. Most people don’t really like people who are doing better than them. They’re jealous; they want nothing more than to have that life.
However, it is important to remember that you cannot control how other people think or see you. Instead, focus on being the best version of yourself you can be. Stop trying to change them; stop worrying about what they do. Set your goals, follow your dreams, listen to your heart; don’t let anyone or anything stop you from achieving your dreams.”
