Do you remember a book called this? Yes! It is a work translated into Amharic by the famous author and translator Ato Mamo Wdneh. The book tells the story of how an Israeli spy hides his identity and escapes from the Mossad. That spy is the one you see in the picture.
His name is Eli Cohen. He is one of the most dangerous spies Israel has ever known.
Eli Cohen was a man who lived in Damascus from 1961 to 1965, disguised as an Arab businessman, and passed on valuable information to his country. This man went beyond his spy work and became Syria’s deputy defense minister. Israel was able to easily capture the Golan Heights in 1967 using information gathered by Eli Cohen.
However, Eli Cohen could not survive until the end without being awakened. In 1965, the Syrian army chief of staff, who had been appointed, noticed suspicious things and monitored him, and his identity was exposed. In May 1965, he was tried by a Syrian military court and sentenced to death by hanging.
