A little boy was standing on the pavement selling soft drinks. When a rich man nearby saw the little boy selling soft drinks while scrolling through his phone, the boy begged, “Sir, buy me some soft drinks.” The rich man refused to take any soft drinks in return and gave his son a dollar from his pocket.
The boy, clutching the one dollar the rich man had given him, turned to the shoe store and looked longingly at his old shoes; then he compared his shoes with a nice pair of shoes in the window. The price was $50.
The rich man silently watched his son and then entered the store. After a while, he emerged with a smile and left without saying a word. Soon, the shopkeeper changed the price on the shoes to “one dollar.”
The boy, not believing his eyes, thought the price had miraculously dropped, so he went inside and bought the shoes. His face lit up with joy and pride. He came out with his new shoes.
How beautiful it is to do good in secret without seeking gratitude.
