Setting boundaries doesn’t mean changing who you are or losing your positive personality. You can continue to be a kind, respectful, and thoughtful person, while also knowing when to distance yourself from people who treat you badly and disrespect you.
Understanding that kindness doesn’t mean silently enduring unnecessary pressure from others or living without self-respect is essential to your inner peace.
Not everyone in your life should have the same level of intimacy with you. The place each person occupies in your life is determined by the amount of behavior, respect, and peace they give you.
Adjusting the space and behavior you give to others in order to maintain your own peace, safety, and peace of mind does not automatically mean that you have changed and become a different person. Rather, it shows that you have reached a more mature and self-respecting position.
Sometimes the way you react to people, the distance you show, or the stance you take is simply a mirror reflecting back to you the way you were treated by them. Treating people as they are and distancing yourself from situations that disturb your peace is not a sign of selfishness, but a great art of leading your life wisely and maintaining inner peace.
What has been the most challenging thing for you in your journey to maintaining your own peace and setting healthy boundaries in your life?
